February 11, 2013: all the single ladies;)
My one-morning collection concerning single women in the new test: I recall sisters Mary and Martha who lived together. Jesus chose their home to stay in and we see Mary Magdelene being one of Jesus's besties. We see Philip's four single daughters being prophets. Though it doesn't say much about single living, it shows that single women were of importance and played important roles. Paul often thanks women in his letters to diff cities. Ex: Euodia and Syntyche, Paul says are fellow contenders in help to further the gospel (women teachers), Paul thanks Phoebe, a female minister in Rome. Priscilla who was married to Aquila taught Apollos about Christ. Also Junia and Andronicus (her hubs) were prisoners of christian persecution with Paul and he tells them they are among the great apostles. I know of a few more women who held church in their homes and Paul is so grateful to them. I know our church traditions tend to overlook the feminine role, but she is there waiting to be discovered!!!
